For years, the most effective weight-loss medicines came with one catch: they were injections. For a lot of men, the needle is the single biggest reason they never start. So the arrival of GLP-1 in pill form is a genuine shift, and it has left many people in Singapore asking a simple question: can I get a GLP weight-loss pill here, and does it actually work?
The honest answer has some nuance, because what is approved abroad and what is available in Singapore are not the same thing. This guide explains which GLP pills you can actually access here, which ones are still coming, how well they work, and how they compare to the injections.
What Are GLP Pills?
GLP pills are oral versions of the GLP-1 receptor agonists, the same class of medicine behind the well-known weight-loss injections. They work the same way the injectables do: they mimic the natural GLP-1 hormone your gut releases after eating, which reduces appetite and slows how quickly your stomach empties, so you feel full sooner and for longer.
The difference is simply the format. Instead of a weekly injection, a GLP pill is taken daily by mouth. For anyone who dislikes needles or wants something that fits more discreetly into a routine, that is a meaningful advantage. You can read more about the injectable options in our guides to Wegovy and Mounjaro.
Which GLP Pills Are Available in Singapore?
Right now, one oral GLP-1 is genuinely available in Singapore: oral Semaglutide, sold as Rybelsus.
Rybelsus has been approved by Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) since June 2021, but the approval is for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. In practice, doctors in Singapore prescribe it off-label for weight management, because its appetite-reducing effect works regardless of the original indication. It comes in 3 mg, 7 mg, and 14 mg tablets, taken once daily.
It is worth being realistic about the results. At the 14 mg dose, Rybelsus produces modest weight loss of roughly 5 to 10 percent, which is less than the higher-dose injectables achieve. For some people that is exactly the right fit; for others, an injection may deliver more. That is a decision to make with a doctor.
Which GLP Pills Are Not Yet Available in Singapore?
This is where the international headlines get ahead of local reality. Two newer oral GLP pills are approved in the United States but not yet in Singapore.
- Oral Wegovy. This is a higher-dose Semaglutide pill (25 mg), FDA-approved for weight loss in December 2025. It produces greater weight loss than Rybelsus, around 15 percent in trials. It is not yet approved by the HSA, and based on typical regulatory timelines it may be a year or more away from Singapore.
- Orforglipron (Foundayo). FDA-approved in April 2026, this is the first small-molecule GLP pill, and unlike the others it can be taken any time with no food or water restrictions. It is also not yet approved in Singapore.
If you see either of these advertised for sale in Singapore today, treat that as a warning sign. Buying unapproved medicines from overseas websites or social media is both illegal and unsafe, since such products can be counterfeit, contaminated, or wrongly dosed.
How Do You Take a GLP Pill?
This is a practical point that trips people up, because the available pill has strict timing rules. Rybelsus must be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, with no more than a small sip of plain water, and you must wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other medication. This is because oral Semaglutide is absorbed poorly, and food or drink interferes with it.
Getting this timing wrong is one of the most common reasons the pill underperforms. The newer Orforglipron was designed to remove this hassle, which is part of why it is so anticipated, but until it reaches Singapore, the empty-stomach rule applies to the pill available here.
Are GLP Pills as Effective as Injections?
Generally, no, not at the doses currently available here. This is the honest trade-off. The oral Semaglutide available in Singapore delivers less weight loss than the higher-dose injectables like injectable Wegovy or Mounjaro. The pill’s convenience comes at the cost of some effectiveness, largely because so little of an oral peptide is actually absorbed.
That does not make the pill a poor choice. For someone who will never accept an injection, a pill they actually take beats an injection they avoid. The best option is the one that fits your life and that you can stay consistent with, which is exactly the kind of judgement a doctor helps you make.
What Are the Side Effects of GLP Pills?
Because they work like the injectable GLP-1 medicines, GLP pills share the same side-effect profile. The most common effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, and stomach discomfort. These are usually mild to moderate, tend to be strongest when starting or increasing the dose, and often settle over time.
GLP pills are prescription-only for good reason. They are not suitable for everyone, and a proper medical assessment checks whether the medicine is appropriate for you and monitors you as you go. This is why they should always be used under a doctor’s supervision rather than sourced on your own.
How Do You Get a GLP Pill in Singapore?
The safe route starts with a doctor, not a shopping cart. Through a telemedicine platform like Sire, you can consult a Singapore-registered doctor, discuss whether a GLP pill or an injection suits you better, and, if appropriate, receive a genuine, HSA-regulated medicine with proper monitoring. That is the difference between a treatment and a gamble.
